TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATION '23

A teacher is a guiding star who shows the correct path through our life journey. And a great personality who inspire, motivate, encourage as well as educate the future generation. They are scared group of people who unconditionally hope the development of own pupils. The service of a teacher is plumbless. The 6th of October 2023 was a great sign in Defence Services College for paying gratitude, deep respect and the appreciation towards beloved teachers for their unaccountableness service on students.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP '23

Humanity means helping those who need help in times of need. Being a support to the people who are suffering with deadly diseases because of the lack of excessive amount of blood is the aim of a blood donation camp as blood is one of the most essential fluids that helps in smooth functioning of our body. Blood donating is a sign of humanity that unites people irrespective of caste, creed, religion and more.

PREFECTS INVESTITURE '23

‘Investiture of Prefects – 2023’ is a peculiar event that was held on 21st of September 2023 in the premises of Defence Services College to handover a great responsibility to a new set of leaders of mother DSC making it a remarkable sign what was written in golden letters in the history of mother DSC. The event was successfully organized to appoint a new prefects board including primary prefects, junior prefects as well as senior prefects. They were proudly worn a new responsibility for the progress of the future path of mother DSC. This massive event was solemnized with the attendance of deputy chief of staff – SL Navy, Rear Admiral RAPP Rathnayake, Adjutant General – SL Army, Major General SRB Aluuwihare, Director General of Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Prof. R.M.Wijerathna as well as Director of Education Mrs. Geethani Subasinghenas the chief guests. The couple of hours in the ceremony were spent gloriously with the participation and the support of each and every parties including parents. In this manner, a new chapter was begun under the newly appointed leaderships through Defence Services College, Colombo.

Award One 2023 - DEFENCE SERVICES COLLEGE LEO CLUB

Award One 2023 was held on June 25 at Saffron Beach Hotel. The chief guest was Multiple District President 306 Sri Lanka and Maldives. Multiple awards was secured by Defence Services College LEO Club.

BLOOD DONATION PROGRAM

Blood donation program organized by the 82nd scouting unit of Co/ Defence Services College on 27-04-2023 was held successfully.

Sinhala Hindu New year celebration

Sinhala Hindu New year celebration of Defence college was held gloriously at the school premises on 17th of April. Many folk games were organized on that day and the competitions were organized at the level of primary section, secondary section and A/L section.

TAEKWONDO EVENT

Mr. Kee Soo Lee, a Korean Taekwondo coach, made a special donation to the Defense Services College On Monday, February 27, 2023 at school auditorium.

ENROLMENT OF GRADE 1 STUDENTS

Grade 1 student enrollment ceremony was held on 28th of February at the Defence Services College auditorium.

Senior and junior cadets were awarded for the excellencies shown at the all-island cadet competitions 2022. The awarding was graced by the presence of Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, General Kamal Gunarathne on 14th December 2022 at the school auditorium.

Donation of food items under the nutrition project

On notification from Ministry of Education, under the nutrition project, the food items collected by the Defence Services College were donated to the children of St. Andrews College and St. Anthony’s Girls’ College on 10-11-2022, demonstrating the value of harmony and brotherhood.

Parents’ concern to provide these materials at short notice is greatly appreciated.  In view of the current economic situation, it is really commendable to contribute as much as possible, no matter how much difficulty you have.

Grade 5 teachers have organized a scholarship seminar series for Grade 5 students.  The initial step was held on 27.10.2022 at the college auditorium

ESTABLISHING OF SMART CLASSROOMS​

Awareness program on the effective use of Smart Classrooms & Interactive White Boards was held at the secondary section on the 05th of May 2022 with the participation of the principal Mr B.A.Abeyrathna, deputy principals, assistant principals & the academic staff of the Defence Services College Colombo.

The equipment, valued at over $10 million, was donated to the school by Mr. Kassapa Senarath, chief guest Head of public relations, CHEC Port City Colombo(Pvt)ltd.

ENROLLMENT OF NEW ADVANCED LEVEL STUDENTS FOR YEAR 2021/2023

Enrollment of new Advanced Level Students for the year 2021/2023 took place at the auditorium of Defence Services College on 6 January 2022 with the participation of the principal Mr. B A Abeyrathna, Deputy Principals, the academic staff and students. 

Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda (Dean SLITT Business School, Malabe) graced the occasion as the chief guest. The program was launched under the patronage of the Career Guidance and Counselling Unit of Defence Services College.

Motivation and capacity building programs for advanced level students

Motivation and Capacity Building Programs for Advanced Level Students (2021-2023 batch) was conducted at the auditorium of Defence Services College on the 07th of January 2022

The guest speaker was Mr.Sanath Gamage, -consultant Skills Development. The program was launched by the Career Guidance and Counselling Unit of Defence Services College

Donation of items by the College Administration section

Donation of essential educational equipment to the Defence Services College was taken place by the administrative branch of the school on the 20th December 2021.

Annual Vaccination programme for grade 6 & 7

Annual Vaccination programme for grade 6 & 7 students of Defence Services College was held at the common facility building on the 17th December 2021 from 8.30am onwards with the participation of the medical staff of School Health Office Narahenpita. HPV dose 1 was administered to grade 6girls and ADT vaccine was given to grade 7 students.

Admission of G.C.E A/L students for 2023 was conducted on 14.12.2021 at the school premises.

Inauguration of baseball in Defence Services College

The Chief Guest at the event was Mr. Sanjeewa Wijenayake, an International Baseball Referee who served as a Technical Committee Officer at the Olympic Games in Japan.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Wijenayake said that sports should not be played only for the sake of national and international achievements, but that by practicing a sport one can achieve physical and mental health as well as other professional achievements related to that sport. Mr. Wijenayake also donated equipment to start the college baseball game.

The President of the School Baseball Association, the current Principal of the Defence Services College, Colombo, .Mr. B.A. Abeyratne, Treasurer of the School Baseball Association and Mrs. Asha Nipuni Upendra, Teacher of DS Senanayake College, Colombo were also present.

COVID-19 VACCINATION PROGRAM HELD SUCCESSFULLY

The vaccination program which was scheduled for the students who were facing the 2021 A/L exams was held at the school premises on October 21st

Arrival of Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) made a visit to the Defence Services College at Malay Street, Colombo, today (05 Apr).

During the visit, Secretary inspected the Junior Library, Activity Rooms, Quarters and Deputy Principal’s Office at Primary Section.
Later, he inquired into the progress of the ongoing construction of the College Hostel while providing necessary instructions in expediting the completion of the project.

The Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, College Director Maj. Gen. W.R. Palihakkara (Retd), the Principal Niroshan Opatha, Assistant Director of Education Hasini Thalagala and several senior military officials were also present at the occasion.
